The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, MAN, has decried the worsening state of electricity in the nation, especially as it affects manufacturers.
The association disclosed that manufacturers spent N246bn on fuelling generators between 2016 and 2017 with a further N43bn on private power generation in the first half of 2018.
“The challenge of inadequate electricity supply persisted in 2018, worsened by skyrocketing electricity price. Inadequate electricity supply remains a major driver of the cost of production.
“A situation where the cost of electricity constituted 40 percent of the cost of production was not manufacturing friendly”, MAN said. The association called on the government not to allow any increase in electricity tariff in the face of inadequate supply.
